I used irregular castoff pieces of industrial foam which I folded and rolled into bundles, held together by fishing line. Where the fishing wire presses into the foam it creates furrow and bulges reminiscent if flesh being held together in tight clothing. I use materials to play with ideas of comforbility and social pressure. If there is a symbolic element in my work then it is in these pressure points that are created by near transparency of the fishing wire suggesting that what is not seen, or is physically present, doesn't necessarily mean that is does not exist. In fact, I would suggest that what is not readily visible enters our lives much more forcefully in ways that we often are unaware off. However, my work is designed to be abstract and for the viewer to find their own inroads into my art in their own unique way.
On a side note to everyone at UNIC's Fine art, thank you for everything this past year! It's been an amazing experience, your all so lovely and genuine and I will miss you all very much! Best of luck for all of your futures! And congrats to this year's graduates, your show was amazing, been an honor to work and be part of it with you all.
(The works were photographed along with the incredible paintings by Andreas Christou as his work along with mine worked well together as we both were working a lot with materials and materials that were present in the works were an important factor. I believe they worked brilliantly together in a gallery set space.)
