New sculptural installation coming along just in time for the formative assessments tomorrow. Bit of a shame we are not able to have it physically due to the outbreak of Covid-19, however on the positive side my work is beginning to take shape. Fingers crossed we will be able to get back into the studio sooner rather than later, so we have time to complete our works in time for our degree show in June.

I found the materials both stretched and held strongly together well, creating a tension between the space which felt intense between the sculpture and viewer. I feel a deep connection with this particular artwork, as in my opinion I fell like 'Bulge' is representing myself and my personal experiences with my body when growing up in a fat phobic western society.

The tension between the sculpture and the floor is the most defining for me. It represents the pressures in which I and many others have felt while growing up in the west. Pressures in which suggest for us to lose weight, create a better life for ourselves, be a better person...Do you honestly believe that losing weight will make you a better person in any way? The truth is no. Weight does not define anyone or anything and our society therefore should not shape our lives around this false truth. The truth is every body is worthy, no matter how Skinner or fat you are. Every single body is beautiful and extraordinary for keeping us all alive. I am hoping that this sculpture can spark questions in relation to our body's, fat and the pressures in which are put upon us throughout our lives by fat phobic individuals.

(UPDATE: All the flour which is used in my projects was purchased previously to Covid-19 and I have done all I can to recycle all the flour I am using.)
