To further my experiment I wanted to make the balloon more weighty, therefore I added water to the flour in the balloon to see how it would react inside the balloon without mixing it. The outcome was great, it almost became an interactive sculpture in which the individual interacting with the work was in fact making the flour become dough.
I really like the idea of the viewer making the flour become dough, it plays around with the idea that we ourselves both make fat within our body after eating, but we also then in response to that we are the people who individually put the pressure on ourselves to then lose that weight. Yes I believe the western society is a problem, however I believe they are only the one promoting the 'perfect body', we ourselves are the physical problems. As many of us listen and play to their rules in which then in return affects your self esteem and general happiness. For anything to change, you need to change your personal attitude towards fat, we do not need to change the western society to create a sudden solution. The solution is in all of us accepting our bodies and selves for who and what we are.
Material wise- All the materials respond together amazingly and I feel as if this particular experiment is the closest I have been to making something feel like a real piece of human flesh. You can feel the lumps of flour inbetween the mixture and the feeling of the balloon reminds me a lot more of human skin. It may be time for me to consider using water within my other experiments to judge if this could work for me further in my practice. I'm really excited about this though. Busy few days ahead.
(UPDATE: All the flour which is used in my projects was purchased previously to Covid-19 and I have done all I can to recycle all the flour I am using.)
